The Amazing Forgiveness of Jesus

Jesus, and the woman caught in the act of adultery

A group of men had just caught a woman in the act of committing adultery. The woman was being shoved and pushed around by these men. She was terrified and alone. They had made up their minds that such a woman should be stoned to death and had picked up stones in their hands.

They brought the woman to Jesus. Jesus was sitting on the ground. “Sir we have just caught this woman in the act of committing adultery. The Law of Moses says that such a woman should be stoned to death, “What do you say?”

Jesus looked at each man in the eye. He saw anger and hatred in their hearts. He also saw that each man had stones in his hands, ready to be thrown at the woman. He then looked at the woman. She was terrified and stood alone. Her head was held down as she waited to know her fate.

Jesus looked down and wrote on the ground. He then looked up again at each man. He said to them, “Which one of you has never done any wrong in your life may throw the first stone at the woman?”

One by one each man dropped his head down and dropped the stones also. Then one by one they began to leave – from the eldest to the youngest. Jesus was left alone with the woman. He said to her, “Where are those who wanted to stone you?” “Sir, they have gone.” “Then neither do I judge you. Go but do not do wrong again”. This story reflects the amazing love of Jesus. When we come to him – no matter what our sin is- he forgives us. He does not condemn us. He gives us new hope and we need to ask him for strength to live for him. (The original story as Jesus told it is found in St. John’s gospel Chapter 8 in the Bible).

Prayer
Dear Jesus,
I stand alone before you,
You know everything about me.
Please give me a revelation of your love for me.
Please forgive me for all the wrong things I have thought,
I have said and done.
Thank you for dying in my place on the Cross
And paying the price for my sin.
Please light a flame in my heart for you.
Amen.
