It was always about following Jesus

” It was always about following Jesus Thing.”

A rich young ruler came to Jesus and said to him, “Good Teacher, What must I do to get eternal life?

Jesus, replied, “Why do you call me good.  Only God alone is good. You know the commandments, Do not lie, Do not steal, Do not commit adultery, and Do not give false evidence.

“Teacher, all these I have kept since I was a young boy”, replied the rich young ruler.

Jesus looked at him with love and said to him. “But you lack one thing. Go and sell all you have and give your money to the poor. Then come and Follow Me. You will have treasure in heaven.”

The rich ruler went away very sad.  He was not prepared to give up his riches to follow Jesus. The cost of following Jesus was far too much for him. He could not let go of his wealth.

The rich ruler missed the point. Jesus had said to him by following him, the rich ruler would have eternal life which would have been worth far more than all his wealth.

Jesus was implying that the values of this world were not the values of the kingdom of God. The things we store up in this life have no value in the Kingdom of God. That is why Jesus encourages us to share what we have with others. The currency of the Kingdom of God is mercy, love, forgiveness and sharing what we have with others.

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Jesus can be trusted 100%.  Jesus is the source of life. Jesus is the heart beat of life.

Remember no one lives for ever here on earth. Everyone dies!  What is the one thing that is holding you back from wanting to follow Jesus?  Are you able to let go of that one thing that is getting in the way of you wanting to follow Jesus? (The story if the Rich Young Ruler is found in Luke Chapter 18 Verses 18 to25)
