Snatched by the Mercy of God A defining moment. Who are you Lord? I am Jesus whom you Persecute.

Saul was on his way to Damascus to arrest the followers of Jesus. He had threatened to kill them. He had an warrant to arrest any men, women and children who followed Jesus.

On his way to Damascus, he was struck by a light which knocked him off his horse. A voice called out, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.”

This was a defining moment in Saul’s life. It was Jesus who appeared to him and no one else. Saul was surprised it was Jesus as he had been persecuting his followers. This was God’s love in action. It was nothing less than the total love and mercy of God.

From that moment Saul became known as Paul and a follower of Jesus.

Saul had been blinded by the light. God had demonstrated his power to him. He had to be guided by the men who were with him. This would have been a very humbling experience for him. Three days later, Saul’s eyesight was restored.

It was St Paul who understood the love and mercy of God in a way no one else has ever understood. Later, he wrote Jesus died for the ungodly. He knew Jesus had died for him.

The same love and mercy are available to us all. Jesus died in your place and my place. Jesus died for the ungodly. The love of God is so great that it cannot be fully known.

This can also be a defining moment in our lives too. We can accept Jesus and believe he died in our place.
