A Man Healed At Pool of Bethesda.
In all things God Works for Good to those Love him and are Called according to his purpose.
As we approach 2022, the big question for us all is who I can trust, what can I trust? We have seen during the last two years our world falling apart. Sadly, many thousands of people died of covid around the world. St Paul came to the conclusion that we could put our whole trust in God. This was based on his experience of his life. He said whatever happens to us in this life, God could use it to work out his plan for our good. That is the hope for you and me this year.
Here is a story of a man who had no hope for thirty eight years of his life. Jesus went to Jerusalem. Now there in Jerusalem by the sheep Gate there was a pool which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, lame and paralysed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the water and stirred it up; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water was made well whatever the disease they had.
Jesus approached a certain man who had been parlayed for thirty eight years and asked, “Do you want to be made well?” The man replied, “Sir when the water is stirred someone else gets in it before me. I have no one to help me.”
Jesus said to him, “Pick up your mat and walk. “The man got up and walked. He was healed.
This man had waited thirty eight years to be healed. He had probably given up all hope of being healed. There must have been power in the voice of Jesus that enabled this man to stand up after thirty –eight years of being ill. He must have thought it is never going to happen for me. He must have felt second best because he could never get into the pool when others had been able to do it.
It is interesting that Jesus asked him the question, “Do you want to be made well?” Jesus had to be sure that after thirty-eight years of being ill, this man did want to change his life. It probably meant that he would have to work to earn his living. It is not easy to break out of a cycle we may feel stuck in for years. Jesus had the power to break the cycle in this man’s life and give him a new start.
There were many people who lay ill but Jesus approached this man specially. Jesus knew how he had been trying to get into the pool but was never able to do so. Jesus knows our hearts and our efforts. He knows everything about you and me. Jesus can come and heal us where we hurt the most. Jesus gave this man a new start, a new beginning, a new hope and a new future. We can start this New Year with giving our lives to Jesus and asking Him to heal us. More importantly, we trust God to work out everything according to his divine plan and for our good. (John chapter 5:1-16)
Lord Jesus
I give my life to you.
I trust you with my life.
I give my all to you.
You know what is best for me.
Come upon me Holy Spirit.
Please break the cycle of illness in my life
Please break the cycle of sin in my life.
Please break the cycle of everything
That is getting in the way of my relationship with you.
Please make me whole.
