They focused on their God Who was more powerful than their circumstances.

King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, ninety feet high and nine feet wide.  He demanded for his image to be worshipped. Nebuchadnezzar sent word to gather the satraps, the administrators, the treasurers, the judges, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image he had set.

Then he gave the order: “To you all people of all nations and languages that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the golden image the King has set up and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into a burning fiery furnace.”

When the King gave the order thousands and thousands of people bowed down before the idol. But the Kings administrators brought to his attention that certain Jews he had appointed over his financial affairs had not bowed down to the image.

They informed him that Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego had not bowed down before the image and they worshipped another God.

When the King heard this he was furious. He had Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego brought before him. The king asked them, “Is it true Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego that you did not bow down to the image when I gave the instructions?”

“Your Majesty we will not bow down to any other image but the living God we serve”, said Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.  The King said to them, “When you hear all the different types of music playing if you do not bow down to the image. I will have you thrown into the burning fiery furnace.”

“Your Majesty when you give the order we will not bow down to the image. Our God is able to deliver us but if not we are prepared to die,” said Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego.   The King gave the order and the music began but Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego did not bow down to the image.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were violently thrown into the burning fiery furnace. The guards made the furnace ten times hotter than the normal level.  The guards were themselves burnt alive. A supernatural thing happened in the furnace a fourth man appeared in it. The fourth person was God himself. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego were not burnt.

When King Nebuchadnezzar saw what had happened he cried out loudly, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego you serve the true and living God!”  In this story the faith of these men is quite amazing. Their faith in their God was bigger than the burning fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego kept faith in their God regardless of their circumstances. We also need to keep our faith in God during these coronavirus times and trust him to deliver us all. (The story of Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego is found in the book of Daniel Chapter 6 in the Old Testament)
