Jesus or the world.

Christmas 2016-11-04, Who will You Choose
Jesus – the Bread of Life? or

The glamour and glitter of this World?

Today we live in a world where we want our needs to be met in an instant. The world of communication has changed dramatically. We now have instant communication at the tip of our fingers with the use of mobile phones and emails.
Access to buying and getting things is easier now than it has ever been. All the supermarkets are open on Sundays so we can shop seven days a week if we want to. There is also access to twenty-four hour television. Most sports games are now played seven days a week.
Adverts are there to encourage us to get more and more for ourselves. But does all this bring us the inner peace we all long for?
The glamour of this world is disguised and made to look better than it really is. We could say it is an illusion. It is not real and is without actual substance.
Having our wants and needs to be met instantly does not always bring us the inner peace that we all long for, which alone comes from God.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of Life. He who eats of me will never go hungry again. He who drinks of me will never thirst again.”
Jesus was here talking about a deeper satisfaction which he alone could give and not the world we live in. The world we live in can only offer us satisfaction for a moment but Jesus talked about a satisfaction that is ever lasting. What we have in this life can all disappear in a moment.
Jesus is presented with the situation where the devil takes him to a very high mountain and shows him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendour. All this I will give you,” he said, if you will worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, serve only him’. Jesus refuses to bow down before instant glamour of this world and stands by the truth when he said, “for it is written: Worship the Lord your God, serve only him.”
We also have to make a choice between Jesus –the Bread of Life and the Glamour and Glitter of this world. To choose Jesus means we choose life in all its truth and fullness and if we choose the glamour and glitter of this world, we will be left feeling very empty. (The passages as Jesus told them are found in the Bible-John chapter 6 Verse 35. The Temptation of Jesus is found in Matthew Chapter 4.)

Prayer
Dear Jesus,
I choose you
The Bread of Life
I turn my back on what this world has to offer me.
I bow down before you and you alone
Please Jesus bring your Peace into
My inner most being.
Amen.
