Cornered.
The end of the road
The Parting of the Red Sea.
“Have you ever felt Cornered in life with no one to turn to?”
This is a story of the people of Israel and how they felt cornered in a crisis situation.
The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for over four hundred and thirty years. God had seen their pain and suffering so he sent Moses to bring them out of Egypt. Moses had run away from Egypt forty years earlier after killing an Egyptian who was mistreating a Hebrew slave.
Moses was asked by God to go back to Egypt and bring the people of Israel out so they could worship God. It was probably the last place Moses wanted to return. Moses was aware of the power of Pharaoh and his army. Moses was eighty years old and fragile. He had no strength of his own to fight Pharaoh. Moses went to Pharaoh and asked him to let the people of Israel go, but he was stubborn to the voice of God and there were economic advantages for him to keep the people of Israel.
Each time Moses approached Pharaoh the message was, “God says, “Let my people go so they may worship me.” Pharaoh refused to let of the people of Israel go and plagues were sent on the people of Egypt. There was such devastation in Egypt by the time he did allow the people of Israel to go there was not much left. Pharaoh refused to understand that he could not fight against God.
The Following plagues were sent on the Egyptians. The first three plagues were experienced by the Israelites and the Egyptians but plagues after that were not experienced by the Israelites. God wanted to demonstrate to the people of Israel and the Egyptians that He was the true God. The Egyptians worshipped idols.
1. Water turned into blood. The fish in the Nile died and the Egyptians could not drink the water.
2. Plague of frogs. Frogs were sent upon the people of Egypt. There were frogs everywhere.
3. Plague of Lice. All the dust of the land became lice.
4. Plague of flies. The house of Egyptians were full of swarms of flies but the flies did not come upon the Israelites.
5. Plagues of livestock. Lord they made difference between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt. The livestock of the Egyptians died.
6. Plague of Boils. So the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of ashes from a furnace, and let Moses scatter it towards the Heaven. And it will become fine dust in all the land of Egypt, and it will cause boils that come out in sores on man and beast throughout all the land of Egypt.
7. Plague of Hail.
8. Plague of Locust.
9. Plague of darkness.
10. Plague of the first born. The first born son of the Egyptians died. Eventually, Pharaoh allowed the Israelites to leave Egypt. It is estimated that two to three million Israelites left Egypt with Moses. There was not much left in Egypt after the plagues.
Pharaoh and his soldiers with their chariots followed the people of Israel. The Israelites arrived at the Red Sea. They could not move forward or go backwards as the Egyptians were coming behind them. “What must have gone through the minds of the people of Israel?” We have come out of Egypt to be killed here. That fear would have overwhelmed them. There must also have been a lot of anger towards Moses from the people, “Moses, did you bring us out of Egypt to die here?”
Moses looked up to the heavens and prayed to God. The red sea begun to open up. The power of God had not been witnessed in this way before. There was a great sense of fear and excitement amongst the people. Moses asked the people of Israel to walk through the divided red sea. They had to step out in faith and put their whole trust in God. The people of Israel walked through the divided sea and the Egyptian army followed them. The Red sea closed on them and the Egyptians all drowned.
If you are feeling cornered today. You can ask God to deliver you as he delivered the people of Israel. He is the God of the Impossible. He is able to deliver us from circumstances that are out of our control. We are not in control but He is in total control.
Dear Heavenly Father
I come to you
With my life
I ask you to take over
I ask you to deliver me from those circumstances
That are out of my control
But I thank you
They are in your control.
In the name of Jesus
Please save me.
Amen
In Jesus name.
