The Test of

True

Love.

Solomon was David’s son. Do you remember King David? God said, “David was a man after his own heart.” I don’t think God said that about anyone else! What a compliment for King David.  David had a heart that wanted to please God.

Solomon was born after David’s relationship with Bathsheba. David had Bathsheba’s husband killed after he entered into an adulterous relationship with her to cover his sin. We can never cover our sin before God.

David had to repent of his sin after he was confronted by the prophet Nathan about it. It appears that David may have put his sin out of his mind. Even Kings and world leaders are accountable for their sin! Unfortunately, I don’t think world leaders today think they are accountable to God! That is why we are in a big mess today.

Soloman was born after David married Bathseba. “In All things God works for good to those who love him and are called according to his purposes.” God’s Grace is far greater than our sins. God brings good out of evil.

God said to Solomon, “Ask me what you would like?” Solomon replied, “A discerning heart to make the right decisions to lead your people.” God was so pleased with Solmon’s answer.

God said to him, “You did not ask for money or health but you asked for wisdom. I will give you wisdom but also give you all the things you didn’t ask for, health and money.” Here is the big question? “What would you ask God for?”

I would suggest you ask for a heart that pleases God.” He will take care of everything else. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and everything else shall be given to you.”

Two women were brought before King Soloman with a child. Both the women claiming it was their child. The first one said, “We both live in the same house and both had babies. The other woman’s baby died during the night and she came and took my baby and replaced it.

I got up in the morning and I realized that the dead child was not my baby. The other lady took by baby during the night and replaced it with her dead child. Both of the ladies were arguing over the baby.

King Soloman asked for a big knife to be brought to him. He said to the women, “I will cut the baby into half and give you both half each.

The first woman cried out,” Please don’t do that let her have the baby.”. The second woman shouted, “Cut the baby into half.” Soloman interrupted both women and said, “Give the baby to the first mother who said do not cut the baby into half. She is the real mother.”

An amazing story of true love. True love will sacrifice. The first mother cared about the baby and loved him. The second mother did not care about the baby. Love and Truth are important to overcome the obstacles in our own lives.  (The story of Solomon and two mothers is found in 1 Kings 3:16-28).

Dear God

Please give me a heart that will please you.

Amen
