The lamb of God who takes

Away the sin of the world. (John 1:29)

When John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, “There is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” It is hard to imagine how one person could carry the sins of the whole world upon himself!

When we think of the atrocities carried out by men. The two World Wars, the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima in Japan by the end it had killed estimated 140,000 people. Later the second atomic bomb was dropped in Nagasaki killed a further 74,000. It is estimated between 50 and 80 million people died during the Second World war.

The guilt and the sin of the world is enormous. It must have been a real agony for Jesus to bear the sins of the world. It was not just the physical pain which was horrific but the mental anguish. It was unbearable mental anguish.

Humanly speaking it is impossible to understand it. Sin is bad at an individual, societal and international level but it is impossible to imagine it on a world-wide scale. One thing is for sure God has to punish sin. God is holy and righteous. Jesus is a friend a true friend who did not walk away from us but bore our pain. A true friend is someone who will take your place and let you live. Jesus did just that he was the perfect lamb of God who died for your sin and my sin.

Jesus said, “I stand at the door and knock if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” (Revelation 3:20) It is simple Jesus is saying if you say yes to me, I will come into your life. We just need to open the door of our hearts to him. He is a friend who bore all our pain.

Dear Jesus

If I ever needed a friend

It was you.

You are my true friend

Who understood my pain

And bore it.

You carried all my sins to the cross.

Thank you, my friend for everything.

Amen
