Habakkuk
“I will praise God no matter What happens in this World.” (Habakkuk)
Though the fig tree does not bud
And there are no grapes on the vines
Though the Olive crop fails
And the fields produce no fruit
Though there is no sheep in the pen
And no cattle in the stalls
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord. (Habakuk 3:17)
That is a very dark picture painted by the prophet Habakkuk. He is prepared to put his trust in God regardless of how bad things became in this world.
He sees so much injustice in the world and the ungodly people prospering. He asks God the big questions we all ask of God? Are you not sovereign? Are you not in Control? He knows God is holy and cannot look at evil. He is saying even if nothing is going my way in this life, I am still going to praise God, I am going to trust him.
Today some people do not believe in God because they see the suffering in this world and blame God for it, but people forget wars are created by men and their greed.
People blame God for hunger and poverty but this is mainly created by corrupt governments and by those who have more that they need. Jesus said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” If we all applied this teaching of Jesus to our lives it would change the world.
Habakkuk saw that the world was an unjust place but he said “My strength is in the Lord. In other words, he was saying even if everything seems bad, I am going to put my trust in the Lord. Job in the Old Testament reiterated the same trust in God when he said, “Though he slays me yet will I trust him.” He was definitely not looking at his circumstances because at this point, he had lost everything. God himself had challenged the faith of Job in him after Satan had said to God, “Suppose now you take everything from him, will he still trust you.?” Job still did trust God.
The question is what is your faith in? “Is it in your achievements or your status?” Will we still trust God if everything is taken away from us? That is the challenge!
Our world is drastically changing today. We are in for tough times in the future. There may be a time in the future that we do not have all the benefits we have enjoyed in this country. The big question is where have you put your trust?
Dear God
Please let my faith
be in you and not in my circumstances.
Please give me that deep trust in you.
Amen.
